AGC Counseling Department Philosophy & Beliefs:
Every Student:
Can achieve and be successful learners,
deserves respect and has dignity and worth,
basic needs must be met for optimal learning,
has the right to have access services provided by the school counselors,
has diverse strengths, needs, and abilities that contribute to their academic, personal, social, career and community goals.
The AGC Counseling Program should:
Contribute to a strong and healthy community of productive citizens.
Foster a positive relationship between home and school.
Be preventive in nature and developmentally appropriate.
Engage all students in the classroom, group and/or individual activities to enhance student learning.
Use data to drive the program development and evaluation, and actively monitor student results based on student strengths and needs.
Is a critical component within the school system and is integral to the academic, personal/social, and career development and progress of each student.
Helps build a positive school environment by encouraging collaboration among counselors, teachers, administrators, parents and the community to further student achievement.
The AGC Counselors will:
Advocate for each student.
Provide a safe, nurturing environment that will foster student independence.
Be safe people with whom students can share concerns.
Adhere to the American School Counselor Association’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.
Strive to empower students to embrace their full potential and to achieve their personal and academic aspirations.
Pursue opportunities to develop their professional competencies to ensure the provision of a quality school counseling program.
